go on a captivating 4-day desert adventure from Fes, designed to immerse you in the heart of the Moroccan Sahara. This journey guides you through the majestic Atlas Mountains, introduces you to ancient Berber culture, and culminates in a magical sunset camel trek and an overnight stay in a traditional desert camp beneath a canopy of brilliant stars.
Your desert adventure begins with a morning departure from Fes, journeying south into the scenic Middle Atlas Mountains. We’ll pause in Ifrane, a unique town often called “Morocco’s Switzerland,” before continuing to the famous cedar forests of Azrou to spot wild Barbary macaques. After a lunch break in Midelt, the route descends into the stunning Ziz Valley, where you’ll stop to admire a panoramic view of the lush palm oasis. By late afternoon, you will arrive at the impressive Erg Chebbi dunes and settle into your hotel for dinner and a relaxing evening.
After breakfast, an exciting 4×4 excursion takes you deep into the diverse landscapes surrounding Erg Chebbi. The journey includes a visit to the Hassi Labied oasis to see its ancient irrigation canals and a stop at the seasonal Srij lake. The adventure continues to Khamlia village to experience captivating Gnawa music before a highlight of the tour: sharing mint tea with a nomadic Berber family in their traditional tent to learn about their resilient way of life. In the afternoon, your memorable camel trek begins, guiding you into the heart of the dunes. You’ll pause atop a high dune for a spectacular sunset and can even try sandboarding before arriving at your Berber desert camp for a delicious dinner under a vast, star-filled sky.
An early start is rewarded with a breathtaking desert sunrise. After breakfast at the camp, you will return to the edge of the dunes by camel or 4WD to meet your driver. If it’s a market day (Sunday, Tuesday, or Thursday), we’ll visit the bustling traditional market in Rissani for a glimpse into local commerce. The journey then continues to Tinghir, leading us to the magnificent Todra Gorge. Here, you can take a short walk through the towering canyon to soak in the dramatic scenery. After lunch, we will travel to the picturesque Dades Valley for dinner and your overnight stay.
The final day of your tour begins with a journey through the fragrant Rose Valley and the expansive Skoura palm grove. In Ouarzazate, the “Hollywood of Africa,” we’ll visit the iconic Ksar Aït Ben Haddou, a spectacular fortified village and UNESCO World Heritage site that has served as the backdrop for films like Gladiator. After time to explore and have lunch, the grand finale of your drive begins: the dramatic crossing of the High Atlas Mountains via the Tizi N’Tichka pass (2260m). You will arrive in the vibrant city of Marrakech in the late afternoon, where your unforgettable adventure concludes with a drop-off at your hotel.
