This classic 3-day desert tour is a journey through Morocco’s most iconic landscapes, connecting the ancient imperial city of Fes with the vibrant energy of Marrakech. You will travel across the majestic Atlas Mountains, experience the magic of the Sahara with a sunset camel trek and a night under the stars, and explore dramatic gorges and legendary fortified kasbahs for an unforgettable adventure.
Your desert adventure begins with a morning departure from your Fes hotel, journeying south into the scenic Middle Atlas Mountains. We’ll pause in Ifrane, a unique town known as “Morocco’s Switzerland,” before continuing to the famous cedar forests of Azrou to spot wild Barbary macaques in their natural habitat. After a lunch break in Midelt, the route descends through the stunning Ziz Valley, where you’ll stop to admire a panoramic view of its lush palm oasis. By late afternoon, you will arrive at the edge of the impressive Erg Chebbi dunes, where you will trade your vehicle for a camel and begin a memorable trek into the Sahara to witness a spectacular sunset. Your destination is a traditional Berber desert camp, where you’ll enjoy a delicious dinner and an evening of music under a vast, star-filled sky.
An early start is rewarded with the breathtaking sight of a desert sunrise. Following breakfast at the camp, you will return to the edge of the dunes by camel or 4WD to meet your driver. If it’s a market day (Sunday, Tuesday, or Thursday), we will visit the bustling traditional market in Rissani for a glimpse into authentic local commerce. The journey then continues to our next destination: the magnificent Todra Gorge. Here, you can take a short walk through the towering canyon to soak in the dramatic scenery. After lunch, we will travel to the picturesque Dades Valley for dinner and your overnight stay.
The final day of your tour begins with a journey through the fragrant Rose Valley and the expansive Skoura palm grove towards Ouarzazate, the “Hollywood of Africa.” Our main stop is the iconic Ksar of Aït Ben Haddou, a spectacular fortified village and UNESCO World Heritage site that has served as the backdrop for films like Gladiator. After time to explore and have lunch, the grand finale of your drive begins: the dramatic crossing of the High Atlas Mountains via the Tizi N’Tichka pass (2260m). You will arrive in the vibrant city of Marrakech in the late afternoon, where your unforgettable adventure concludes with a drop-off at your hotel.
